14" Os Plate by Mary Schliep

This beautiful handcrafted Rosemal plate is painted by our instructor Mary Schliep in the Os (pronounced "Oose") style of Rosemaling. This colorful plate is joyfully painted black rimmed in red with a white center with flowers and circled with more flowers and greenery in reds, blue, green and orange   The plate is 12-1/2" rounded square and approximately 1" deep.  It has a hanger on the back to display on your wall if so desired. 

Coming from the west cost of Norway the Os style of Rosemaling is distinctively bright and cheerful. Flowers are abstracted and the use of geometric shapes is a hallmark of this style. Leaves have a characteristic use of heavy line-work for veins, and shading is less dimensional. Designs can be symmetrical or asymmetrical. C and S shaped scrolls are found in the Os style and often include elaborate line-work embellishment surrounding them. In character with this style the backgrounds will often be black or white and occasionally either reds, greens or blues.

Mary has trained with experts around the world and brings her love and expertise of Rosemaling to the many Rosemaling courses that she teaches as well as to the crafted pieces that she brings into our school store to sell to the public!
