Hand-carved Birch Wall Hooks made with care by Mike Schelmeske.  Function and beauty combine in a practical and beautiful memory of the Boreal Forests of Northern Minnesota and beyond! These wall hooks come in three different sizes- they are each chosen and created from  the branches of birch trees that are abundant along the North Shore of Lake Superior.  Mike chooses each one, carves, sands, polishes, varnishes and signs the hooks.  They are ready to attach to your wall and hang up your crafting apron or whatever else deserves a special place in your home. Because each hook is carved from it's own branch of a tree, there is some variation between each item.

Small:  8-9" long, 3/4 to 1 1/4" wide and extends about 1 1/2- 2" from the wall.

Medium: 9 1/2 to 10 3/4" long, 1 to 1 1/2" wide and extends about 2 1/2" from the wall.

Large: 11 1/2 to 14" long, 1 1/2 to 2" wide and extends about 2 3/4" from the wall.

Extra Large: 14-15" long, 2 to 2 1/2" wide and extends about 3" from the wall.

Jumbo: 14 1/2 to 15" long, 2 to 2 1/2" wide and extends about 3.5" from the wall.

A long time North House instructor, Mike is most notably known for teaching Handcrafting a Northwoods Paddle.  Mike’s interest in Native American and Scandinavian traditions has kept him constantly pursuing boreal forest crafts and materials for project ideas. He finds utility craft particularly intriguing, and the thought of putting his crafts to work on an everyday level keeps him searching for the next project.
