Sweet birch spoons hand carved by Mary Tripoli. Each of these useful camp or stir spoons is graceful and artistic and unique. Spoon #1 is adorned with a lily green stripe of milk paint down the handle, #2 has a fun little curve to the handle and has two black stripes towards the base of the spoon. #3 has on solitary black stripe adorning the spoon nearer the neck of the spoon. Each spoon is 12" long by a wee bit over 1" wide. Perfect for tasting your fresh pot of soup, scraping the last of the cake batter from the mixing bowl, whipping up a batch of boxed mac and cheese over a campfire, or for whenever you need a whimsical and practical spoon.
Mary (she/her) grew up in a small town in southwestern Pennsylvania, but has been enjoying life in the Pacific Northwest for the last 20 years. After finishing a corporate career, she discovered green wood carving in 2014 and has not gone more than a few days without carving or turning something—a spoon, a spatula or bowl! She is part of a thriving carving community based at Pratt Fine Arts in Seattle, WA.
A 2021 North House Intern alum, Mary is thrilled to continue her craft practice by returning to Grand Marais and teaching for us here at North House. Mary continues to grow her skills with greenwood carving, pole late turning, chairmaking and more. We are so happy to be able to share not only her teaching skills, but offer her hand crafted goods here in the school store.
