First Snow Shawl, Peach, by Christine Novotny
First Snow Shawl, Peach, by Christine Novotny
Like the magic of the first snow falling softly to cover the sacred earth, so does this lovely hand-woven wool shawl grace your shoulders with soft and gentle beauty. Woven with shades of peach, sky blue, ivory, tan and a rose/rust wool, the shawl is aptly named "First Snow Shawl, Peach." The shawl measures 80" long and is 18" wide.
Christine Novotny is the artist responsible for this and other gorgeous fibers that we sell in the North House School Store. Christine Novotny is a handweaver with a love of color, pattern, and design. Guided by her background in painting and drawing, Christine began weaving to create works that beckon participants to interact—tactile work that can be worn, folded, touched, and stepped on. Christine has a particular love for surprising optical color interactions created by the intersection of warp and weft. She firmly believes in the power of attention and slowing down, two fundamental skills in creating woven work. North House was fortunate to recruit Christine as part of our Artisan Development Program. She has gone on to become a full-time resident of Grand Marais and teaches a plethora of weaving courses here on campus.
