This game from Scandinavia which predates chess has many variations in size, materials, and structure. Norse Mythology has Hnefatafl being played by the gods since the beginning of time, and after Ragnarok, the apocalyptic end of the world, the scattered golden pieces are found once more to begin the game anew.
Handcrafted by our talented North House instructor Maeve Gathje. The figures are carved in a simplified flat plan style, gestural, and of Maeve's imagination, using only a 2" flat-plane Harley Knife.
The full set includes a wooden playing board, a total of 37 playing pieces (24 green, 12 blue, and a single 'king'), as well as a booklet with information on how to set up the board and play!
